MAREWA-SYSTEM FAQs

What is MAREWA-System?
This system enables real-time monitoring from shore by collecting data from various sensors—such as pressure and temperature—installed on the engine and other major machinery inside the ship’s engine room.
In its standard configuration, 62 sensors capture data every 10 seconds. The system stores the one-minute average, as well as the maximum and minimum values, on a server. Remote monitoring is made possible via satellite communication.
When a sensor reading exceeds a predefined threshold, the display changes to red to indicate an anomaly. Users can also review historical data to analyze how readings have changed over time, making it easier to identify when, how, and where a problem began.
What can MAREWA provide?
The benefits vary depending on your position:
For Owners, Agents, and Providers
The system helps reduce the anxiety of young engineers caused by inexperience and work pressure. By identifying engine issues early, it prevents missed opportunities and in-voyage anomalies that could lead to engine failure. This contributes to safer, more reliable voyages and supports a sustainable future for the maritime industry.

For Docks
Troubleshooting can be enhanced with data-driven insights. Accurate data allows for early identification of repair needs and advance ordering of long-lead-time parts, improving work efficiency and productivity at the dock.
Who are using it and what are their testimonials?
At present, the system has been installed on two distant-water tuna longline vessels. We have received positive evaluations from vessel owners and crew members, who have expressed a sense of reassurance knowing that operations are being monitored remotely from shore.
Furthermore, we believe the system has generated synergistic benefits for all related stakeholders and associated companies.
There are also opinions suggesting that the system contributes to strengthening the vessel’s brand image, thereby supporting efforts to recruit younger crew members.
What achievement and cases are available with it?
In one case where a potential problem was successfully prevented, a vessel reported a sustained drop in oil pressure over the course of two to three days and requested an inspection upon returning to port.
After reviewing the system’s graphical data, our engineers identified a possible oil filter blockage. We immediately notified the ship, which inspected the filter and discovered carbon buildup.
After the carbon buildup was removed, the oil pressure returned to normal levels.
Because the vessel was able to resolve the problem while still at sea, it avoided significant missed opportunities and was able to continue normal operations.
Engine failures have the potential to cause serious accidents.
We will continue to use the system to help ensure safe voyages
How different is MAREWA from other devices?
We have been engaged in the ship repair industry for over 50 years, and this system was carefully designed and developed by our experienced marine engineers in response to the recent shortage of onboard crew.
Utilizing the extensive technical knowledge we have accumulated over the decades, we modified the piping and installed sensors with precision and expertise.
This system enables centralized management of engine room data, regardless of equipment manufacturer, and can be retrofitted to existing vessels.
In addition to collecting highly accurate data, the system allows for the sharing of “maintenance records” that detail past failures and repairs.
By sharing these records, potential problem areas can be identified in advance at the time of docking, greatly enhancing the efficiency of spare parts procurement and maintenance planning.
Some components may require up to six months to be sourced, and the ability to prevent voyage delays due to waiting for parts is a significant advantage.
Looking ahead, we plan to further enhance the system by integrating 3D computer graphics to visualize the engine room and applying fault detection algorithms, allowing all relevant personnel to monitor conditions within the engine room in real time.
How durable is it?
As for performance, the system has a proven durability of three years. However, we recommend an annual maintenance inspection, including checks for any loss or irregularities, to be conducted by distributor or Dealer.
How long does its delivery take?
The delivery time for equipment and materials is approximately 5 to 6 months. The actual installation work is expected to take about one week to ten days, depending on the size of the vessel.
Are its operators required to receive training?
The system is designed to be easy to use and generally does not require specialized training.
However, we do provide operational guidance, and a comprehensive user manual is included. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us.
Do you have technical information and operational manual in English?
Yes, we do have a user manual. If you have any questions or need additional support, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Where should I contact for questions etc.?
Please contact us using the inquiry form.
